Making New Traditions

Every year there are certain things we do as a family around Christmas. Visiting family, multiple gift exchanges, dinners, decorating, etc. It is time for a new tradition to be added.

This year, now that my son is a tad older, I plan to read Luke 2 every Christmas Eve before bed to our family. The birth of Jesus is the reason for the season. It's not about gifts, games, and toys.... Christmas is about Jesus!

I want my son to grow up knowing what Christmas is really about. I want him to know our Saviour was born as the ultimate sacrifice for us.  I want him to keep his eyes focused on Jesus!

Merry Christmas everyone! I pray that you all spend time with Our Lord this week and remember all He has done for you ♥

8 Days until Christmas!

With the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, we all get a little flustered! Christmas is a mere 8 days away! Oh and how unprepared I am!!!
I could stress and worry and get down on myself, but you know what? I won't! I've made a ton of crochet gifts and Christmas isn't about gifts.... it's about Jesus!
Remember all you wonderful mommies and wives out there, your children won't remember they had 100 gifts under the tree or 10. They will remember you getting the house ready, the time you put into making Christmas special, the small heartfelt gifts, and the lessons of Jesus you've taught them.

Peace, Hope, Love, Joy, Jesus

I was skimming through Pinterest the other day and saw a super cute advent activity. It is actually from Etsy. I don't know about you, but with little ones running about, flames make me nervous!

Here is an amazing way to celebrate Advent!!! Add the "flames" one day at a time with no worry for little fingers getting burned!

Stars of God's Blessings

I can't wait to start this activity with my son! With everything going on in the world, sometimes our perspective gets cloudy. We've all been there.

Where are my blessings?

Why am I struggling with this?

When will I catch a break?

GOD IS ALWAYS THERE!

I have had a few rough days over the last two weeks (ok, maybe more than a few). Last night as I prayed, I heard Him. The great I AM. As dark as things in this world seem to be, there are blessings all around us!!! This revelation brought me to this activity.

What you need:
Construction paper
Tape
Pen
Wall space or door space

Every evening, after my family and I have dinner, I'm going to hand everyone a star and a pen and write one thing they were blessed with or thankful for that day. I'm going to post them on the back of our front door. Just as a reminder when we leave everyday, how blessed we really are ♥♡♥♡♥

Will you join us in counting our blessings?

I can't wait to share our finished star blessing reminder :)

Romans 8:18
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Advent family activities

I am so excited today! Today is the first Sunday of Advent! I have some awesome activities to share with you all throughout the week to do with your little ones.

I have found there are sooooo many activities out there for the month of December. A depressing part of all this is..... it is all geared toward "Santa" and gifts. Is this what we want our children to focus on during this amazing month? My family and I are keeping Christ in CHRISTmas!

My son is at the age right now (7) where he is questioning everything. Through these activities I am hoping he will have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus and he continues to walk with our Lord throughout his life. I know he loves Jesus, I just want to help him along his walk with our Savior.

Would you join me? Will you keep Christ is Christmas?

Stepping out in Faith

What does this mean, "Stepping out in faith"? This is something that you may have to define for yourself. However, I would like to guide you in finding what stepping out in faith means to you :)

I know that it seems funny for me to say that you may need to define this yourself. I am the one writing the blog right? Well, it isn't so much that this journey will be a solo mission as what stepping out may look like to you, well, it may look different to me.

A few years ago, I was a lost sheep. I followed the world. I followed what was "in" and thought more meant better. I was wrong. Wrong may actually be an understatement. I don't know if there is a word to suffice the degree at which I was wrong. I had to step out in faith. I had to step out of my comfort zone, without worry or care, and step out in faith.

If you have read any of my previous posts, you know I have been sick for just under two years. The doctors are clueless and that's ok. I know God is with me. This illness is what made me come back to God. Once I did, I started feeling better, was happier, was more content with life than I had ever been. Praise God for his healing!!!

After all of this, I realized, the way I was living my life was not glorifying God. It was not glorifying my husband or son. I was a horrible example to others. That is when I stepped out in faith. I stepped out of that box of my fleshly wants and raised my hands in glory of God.

Do you care what others think about you? Do you see someone with a "nicer" car, phone, home and get jealous? Do you see someone's husband do extravagant things for them and wonder why they get such special attention? It is time for you to step out in faith sister. I am going to make this into a series. I am currently working on how to go about it, but in the mean time, take that bold step out and be Not of This World.

Our choice to HomeSchool

Hello there everyone!! There has been much discussion in my home lately on the topic of homeschooling. I know that everyone is not going to agree with us, but that is their choice.

I don't know how many of you are currently in the same situation that we are. We are currently living in New York state which has adopted the "Core Curriculum" in the public and private school systems. This new curriculum is not only making children relearn everything in a completely new way, but this is failing a lot of our children. Our son was in gifted when we lived in Florida. He did so well in school. He was tested and was given an IQ score of 119 at only 7 years old!!!! So why would I pull him from public school? Here's why...

This new curriculum has him believing that he is "stupid". He has come home on numerous occasions so upset that it takes me an hour or more to calm him down enough to do the MASSIVE amounts of homework he has. He doesn't understand why he can't do math the way he has been taught since kindergarten (he is now in 2nd grade). He is a very tactile learner. This is something that was accommodated in his prior schooling but now, because of the 90 minutes of math he does EVERY DAY, he is basically told to sit still and figure it out. That's the thing..... he can't sit still and think. He needs to be moving, tapping, something to keep himself focused. He is bringing home test scores that are very troubling to me. Granted he is doing absolutely amazing in language arts and reading comprehension, this math thing is really damaging his self-esteem.

There is also another reason. This is a big reason. God has put it on my heart to bring him home and school him at home. Schools used to be a safe place. They used to be a place where you knew without a doubt that nothing was going to happen. That has changed. With all the violence and other craziness going on in schools, I personally feel better with him home.

Home is your safe place. We can teach him the way he knows how to learn. We can keep God in all of our studies! That is the most amazing part. With all of this being said, I know there will be some that disagree with our choice and that's ok. I will let him finish out this school year (depending on how he's progressing) and then keep him home :). He is such an amazing and smart child, I will not let the State of New York fail him!!!

I have ordered some information on the Charlotte Mason method that I am super excited about from www.simplycharlottemason.com. I cannot wait until it is here next week! I don't think homeschooling is for everyone, but I know deep in my heart that this is what we need to do. If it's for a year, it is for a year. If it is until he's finished with 12th grade, then so be it. This new adventure is going to be a learning experience for all of us and I cannot wait to get started!!! Anyone who has had homeschooling experience, I would love to hear from you!

Please, if you disagree with our choice, don't try to convince us otherwise :) This is something we have talked over and prayed about for quite some time. This is what we feel is right for our son.

Ephesians Bible Study continued...

For some unknown reason, today my Facebook has decided it does not want to work. So until the issue is resolved, I will be doing the Bible study for my ladies group here :)

S:
Ephesians 2:6-7
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

O: Through Christ we are saved within the kingdom of Heaven. What an awesome gift to us from God! We sinners have been saved! God seated us next to him and Jesus, wants to show us the riches of his blessings and love!

A: I need to be more aware of the blessings all around me. We as people tend to look at the bad more than the good. This is something I need to work on. God is raining his blessings down on us all the time, we need to be open to them.

P: Lord, I ask that you open my eyes, my heart, and my being to all the blessings you have around me. Help me be the light for someone who is lost in the darkness. In your precious son Jesus name, Amen.

I hope all of my sisters in Christ have an amazing day! As soon as this Facebook issue is resolved, I will jump back over there :)

How blessed we all truly are! And the Tower of Mobley♥

Have you ever stopped in the midst of the craziness of your day and think, "Wow! I am so blessed?"  At this point you may think I'm a bit kooky :)

Being a stay at home mom, there are times when I think "Didn't I just wash this?" or "Will the list ever end?" When I get to those moments I remember... God has blessed me with a family to care for. A husband who needs me, a son who needs me.

We all need those little reminders. How truly blessed we all are. As you go about your day tomorrow,  I challenge you to do this; for every load of laundry,  ever dirty dish, every sweep of that vacuum, thank the great I AM for giving you a family to care for. Even if you're not a momma or daddy yet. Thank God for every day, every minute, every second.

All those things you do throughout the day matter. Being a Momma is sometimes a thankless job,  but you know what? That's ok. Because all those little things,  clean clothes, kissed booboos, late night hugs when someone is scared,  those moments, those are the ones that matter.

Hug those you love every day and tell them you love them:)

Bible Study books!

With so many authors out there,  it can be difficuly to choose a good bible study book.  I have some guidelines I use to help you choose:

1. Check reviews of the book.  Pretty much anyone can write a book. People can write whatever they want. Go through all the reviews online to make sure that this particular study will work for you.

2. Research the author. Are they affiliated with any Christian groups? Do they have views that line up with God's word?

3. Ask your friends! Those who use study books usually have a favorite.

I love the Women of Faith series, anything by Steve and Wendy Backlund, Courtney Joseph, and Kerry Shook.

Share your favorites with me!

S.O.A.P

I am so excited to do this short series on bible study methods. I figured I'd start with the one that I enjoy the most :)

The SOAP method is awesome. This has helped me to understand scripture deeper than just reading it. So here's how it works:

S: Scripture - write out the verse or passage you are studying.

O: observation - what do you see in this passage? What jumps out at you?

A: Application - how can you apply what the passage say into your life?

P: Prayer - write a prayer and say ot put loud. Ask God to show you what he wants In your life in line with the passage you read.

This method has helped me understand the Good Word so many times and has helped me make serious changes in my life. You can use select verses or do the entire Bible this way. I've done this method on a topical level. Verses on hope, love, trust, etc. This is a good way to learn the  scripture of the fruits of the spirit ;)!

Modesty in Your Appearance

There has been a scary trend showing itself in the last few years. I have seen way too many young ladies wearing not much more than undergarments as their outfit. I walk through the stores and cringe at a lot of the clothing on the racks. In such an immodest world, how do you stay modest in your appearance?

I know a lot of ladies that have gone the dress only route in their clothing. Biblically, dresses only is what we are told to do. I own more dresses than I do pants. I have not gone to dresses or skirts only yet but that will be something that I will be working toward very soon. All of my skirts/dresses go below my knees which is part of my modesty. My jeans are not too tight as to show every curve but fit properly so nothing shows that shouldn't be seen.

When it comes to tops, I have a rule that I follow. If my shirt is lower than two fingers from my collar bone, I need an undershirt on to cover myself. Some women do not go sleeveless, I do. I wear tank tops but the arms fit properly and are not low cut. I am a "layerer" anyway.

I have also done research on headcovering which is something that I will address in a different series. This is something that I have been reading on and asking God's help with whether or not to permanently cover in respect for my husband and God.

There is one other thing I would like to address. Bathing suits. I know the summer is winding down, but I was living in Florida for the last two years. I am a tankini or one piece type of girl. Not big on bikinis. That is mostly because of my own convictions. I don't think it is necessary to wear nothing more than undergarments in public.

Every person I have ever talked to about modesty has a different opinion to what dressing modestly means. Some assume that you wear clothing similar to the Amish community or that you are completely covered head to toe with the exception of your eyes. My view is this, if you show what it meant for no one but you and your husband, then you are being immodest.

Here is my rule of thumb: Do not draw attention to your self with how you look. Clothing is meant to cover, not to show off. I wasn't always this way. I followed the trends until I realized, this is not ok. I have more respect for myself and my husband than to show the world what they are not meant to see.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Please keep comments and questions clean.

Modesty in Your Relationship

Hello again! Here is a question for you, if there is a ripple in your marriage, who do you turn to?

I know, it seems like sometimes it's easier to talk to others about a problem in your relationship. While it may seem that way, you're actually doing more harm than good. Being modest in your relationship is so important. The only other place you should be turning to is your BIBLE for guidance.

When you talk about your problems to others, you are disrespectful to your husband. Have I been guilty of this? Yes! Did it make things worse? Absolutely!

My husband and I now talk to each other in the midst of a problem. We turn to our Bibles a lot!! We have a pretty trouble free marriage due to our modesty in speaking and knowing that with God and each other, we can get through anything.

The one place you can always find answers is in God's truth!

Modesty in your speaking

Hello again everyone! Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, I was at my best friends wedding :)

Have you ever thought about what you sound like when you speak? What kind of language you use? Who is listening? I want to address some of this tonight with everyone. This is something that I myself still work on day to day.

When I talk about Modesty in your speaking, I am talking about a number of different things. Let's go through them one at a time:

1) Tone: The tone of your voice says a lot about you. Are you often sarcastic? I am guilty of that more often then not. When you don't monitor the tone of your voice, you may come off as something you are the total opposite of.

2)Volume: This is a big one. Are you a loud talker? Some people can see that as threatening. Do you speak at a volume slightly above a whisper? I try very hard to make sure that I am not talking too loud or too soft. I have some hearing deficit which I always let people know of the first time I meet them. This way, I don't come off as loud and obnoxious when that is not my intention at all.

3)Vocabulary: I will admit, I had an awful mouth until about 2 years ago. I am not ashamed to admit my faults. Due to the nature of this blog, I will not list the foul words I have used or that I hear on a regular basis. But I think y'all get the idea of what I mean. I heard myself on a recording one time and realized a few things: I don't sound like a lady at all speaking that way and I sound very ignorant and unintelligent speaking that way.

The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.~Proverbs12:18

4)Manners: I know how this may seem off in this discussion, but hear me out. When someone comes to you for help, do you help or criticize? Manners when speaking are one thing most people don't think about. Please and thank you go a long way. Also, when you are speaking with someone, letting them know you are not there to judge or criticize opens a huge door to communication to really help someone.

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. ~Ephesians 4:29-32

5)Gossip: From time to time, everyone has been guilty of gossiping.  Here is my question to you, can you really trust someone who continuously gossips? Gossip doesn't help anyone.

A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. ~ Proverbs 15:4

Modesty Series

Hello everyone! I am doing this small introduction to my series. Modesty is something that didn't always come easy to me. I didn't understand why it mattered how I dressed, how I presented myself, how I spoke, anything at all.
Let me give you a little back story. I assumed that drawing attention was a good thing. Whether is was positive or negative, attention was attention. I wore what everyone else wore. I talked like everyone else talked. I acted like everyone else acted. Well, here I am 28 years old and wish I could smack my 16 year old self in those short shorts!!!!!

Here is something that I have learned over the years. Why show the world something that you wouldn't want to see? Or want your children to see? I will be addressing several different aspects of modesty in this series. I hope y'all stay tuned and let's change society's view of beauty!

Hello again!

Hey everyone! Whew! Things have been a little hectic here!

As most of you know, we have been in the process of moving for the last week or so. There has been so much to do, I feel like if my head wasn't attached it would fall off and roll down the street! Moving is a trying time for anyone. Luckily, I have a very supportive husband and family that has been there with us every step of the way.

I have been tossing around some ideas for the next series here. I am always open to suggestions. I have missed y'all so much! I am thinking of doing a family series on how to get through those trying times with your family and having your faith in God remain strong. I have to sit down and do some planning but I am sure this will benefit a lot of people.

Throughout these last two weeks, we have had some very trying times and still have some going on. When you are in a tight spot, what do you do? Throughout all of this, my faith has never been shaken. I know that God will provide as He always does!!!!

Onto planning some awesomeness for all of you. Thank you all for your support through this time and I can't wait to start a new series with you!

Submission-Living a Biblical Marriage

Ephesians 5:22-23

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

I know I have talked about this in another post. This is so important in my marriage. A lot of people in today's society see submission as one of two things: 1. A doormat. 2. Something that cannot be discussed here on my blog!
Biblical submission is NEITHER! My husband is the head of my household. He provides, he protects. I am the keep of the home. I tend to our son.
I, believe it or not, a few years ago would have been considered "domestically challenged"! I could cook, but my menu was limited. I could bake, again, limited. I cleaned to make the house "presentable". Now, it's a whole new ball game, AND I LOVE IT!
I have so much more respect for everything my husband does everyday for us and he respects me the same. Intimacy (not just physical) has exploded in our marriage! God intended wives to be helpmeets, not controllers of everything. A lot of women disagree with me and this, and that's ok. Here's a little something to show you how this works:
We both surrender ourselves to The Lord. We submit to Him. He is our ultimate light guiding our feet down the path of this life. I submit/surrender to my husband. He makes the big decisions in our home after discussion, he provides for us, protects us, and guides our family where it needs to be. I make sure our home, health, and happiness are taken care of. I greet him with a smile even if its been a rough day not because I have to, but because I'm so grateful and happy to see him!

I enjoy being my husbands helpmeet, because let's face it ladies, the house wouldn't run as smoothly without us ;). All joking aside, God has given me such an amazing husband. I've had people ask me if I will ever go back to work. My answer is, I don't know. I've also had people ask, don't you miss all the extras you get with more income? No. We do without to be together as a family. We are not materialistic people. We enjoy repurposing things. I enjoy making blankets, mending clothes, and just enjoying life.

I know there are a lot of feminists out there. And if that works for you, great. But I'm living my life as The Lord intended it to be. I am a submissive wife and would have it no other way!

With all this being said, there's something else that I need to address. I have seen around the lovely land of the Internet, people claiming or practicing submission as abuse. THAT IS NEVER OK! I don't care what happened, what was said, what wasn't done, abuse is NEVER ok. If you are in that situation, please contact your local abuse hotline or head to a women's shelter. Please visit this website for signs of abuse and how to get help!

Is your marriage what God wants it to be?

Genesis 2:22-24

Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.  The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man."  For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

Does this sound like your marriage? Are you one in everything with your husband?

Before getting too far into this, I want to share my story. I wasn't brought up in a church. I wasn't from a devout family. I strayed. I did a lot of things I am not proud of. I shut God out of my life for a very long time. I'm sure you're thinking, "who is this woman to give me advice?" I will tell you :)

14 months ago, I became very ill. No one knows what is causing my body to do the things it does. Chronic pain, fatigue, trouble sleeping, eating, completing daily tasks. For roughly 5 months, I could not walk unassisted. My husband bathed me, dressed me, catered to my every need. I felt hopeless, alone, a burden, and most of all scared. While on my sofa, reading, trying to drown out the voice in my head telling me I wasn't enough, there came another voice. One I hadn't heard before. One that struck the very core of my soul. "Let me help you Stephanie, come back home."

I sat for a moment, trying to figure out if I was completely losing my mind, or was this something I needed to pursue. I went back to reading and again that voice came, "You will find comfort in my arms." Right then I knew The Lord was knocking at the door of my heart! I've lived for Him ever since.

I'm happy to say that within 3 months of this revelation, I was not only walking, but taking care of everything I needed to.... by myself! Do I still have pain? Yes. Do I still have moments of weakness and fatigue? Yes. Am I alone in my heart? NO! I share this testimony with you for everyone to understand, no one is perfect. No one but Jesus. No one can fix everything in your life. No one but Jesus. No one will make sure that your faith stays strong in the face of adversity and tribulation. No one but Jesus!

My husband and I are one. We've chosen to live our marriage just as God designed it. He is the head of our home. I am his helpmeet. I am the keeper of our home. He is our provider. In the world today, we may seem backwards. We are living for Christ. We don't expect pats on the back for good works. We don't expect recognition for the things we do. We help others, each other, reach out and witness to people, and continuously ask for God's guidance throughout our journey here on earth.

Do we have a perfect life? No, but we make the best of everything. We've been through a lot of trying times, and God has been there with us, holding us up, keeping us strong, and loving us just as we are. God made woman from man. We are an integral part of our husbands. I don't know about you, but I know that without a first mate, the captain of a ship can't keep everything under control, but our lifeguard walks in water!!!

I have a challenge for you, write down all the things that made you fall in love with your husband. Remind yourself God chose you two to make a union and live in His light. Remind yourself you are a part of your husband. Not someone to walk ahead or behind him, but right along side of him. I love being able to care for my husband and son. I love being home to greet them. I love being the one who maintains our home. I love that I am my husbands equal. Read Genesis 2:22-24 over and over until it really sinks in, we are one with our husbands!

New series starting soon!!!!

I've been thinking about this for a while, what was my next series going to be? After much though, prayer, and wonderful signs from God, I know what to do.

For the next few days, I'm going to help everyone of my awesome blog followers....YOU :)..... follow the Word of God in your marriage. I know a lot of people will not agree with me, some will think I'm "crazy" but that's ok :)

First and foremost, I want everyone to understand this is a no judgement zone. While we may not agree with others beliefs or the way each other live their lives, I'm asking everyone to respect each other. We need to love each other just as Jesus loves us! I love each and every one of you for who YOU are, not for what you do or have done. With that being said, I need to get some thoughts together and let's begin this journey into how my home lives and what God says about marriage!

Big Changes

Well, the Mobley's have some good changes coming in the very near future! First, let me just say how AWESOME God is! Is there anything better than His blessings? The answer is NO WAY!

So, we were presented with an opportunity to make our life a lot more stable. My husband has been offered an awesome job! And of course he said yes. So that means...... the Mobley's are headed back to NY!

We have now lived in Florida for almost two years. I can't say they've been the easiest two years and to be honest, I think we have given it a great run. Things are just not working out here. So when this opportunity for better pay, health insurance, a more stable situation, and no change in expenses really, we had to jump on it. God always makes a way to put you where you need to be. Where He wants you to be. This is so exciting for us!

We will miss our family and friends here in Florida, but I know eventually they will understand that we need to do this for our family. This is something that we both feel is important for us to do and I really feel that God needs us to be there to share His truths.

There may be a bit of a hiatus on here while we are moving and settling in. I for one am so excited to be going back home!

So, the Mobley's will be back in NY for good in August!!!!! YAY!!!!!

REVELATION!!!!

The last 24 hours have been so completely life changing that I cannot keep this to myself! Yesterday started out a little rough...... ok a lot of rough. I was so lost; so confused; hurt. It took the kindness of one friend to make my day gradually get better. An offer, out of kindness, to help.
Fast forward a little bit. I love going to bible study every Thursday. This is something that keeps me level, keeps me connected, fellowship, friendship, worship..... just everything I need. My day had started looking up, and though I had tossed around the idea of not going yesterday, I went. THANK YOU GOD FOR CHANGING MY MIND!
Something inside me changed at bible study. At first, I just felt such peace (remember our Fruit of the Spirit activity???), then my entire body felt like I had electricity running through me! I came home and I bombarded my husband with this so amazing, awesome feeling and spoke of God straight from my spirit! I have made the connection I have been so longing for!!!

When things look rough, remember, your spirit is connected to God's spirit. Just make yourself available to receive His peace and His blessings. Change those strongholds in your life that are sabotaging your ability to receive God's promises. Truly believe. Truly have faith. He is there!

I needed to share this with the world. I am the Child of the One True King! This is the most amazing feeling I have ever had and there is nothing like it in the world. Thank you Jesus for saving me!

I am here for anyone who needs prayer, counsel, or just someone to listen. Praise God for every one of you!

Bible study ideas :)

Hello everyone! I am sorry that I haven't been posting as often. The last week has been crazy!!!! Lots of things going on in the Mobley Residence!

Well, there is one thing that I ALWAYS find time for. My time studying the Word of God is so important in my life. It may not be the same time everyday, but it does indeed happen every day! Make sure that you have a Bible you are comfortable with. I love my NIV version, but everyone is different. My husband uses KJV. So make sure you can understand what you are reading and are comfortable with it.

I know a lot of people just don't know where to start when it comes to Bible study. So I figured I would share some of what I do and maybe it will help you out some :)

First, I am part of a Women's Bible Study group through church. We are currently reading, "Living from the Unseen" by Wendy Backlund. You can purchase that book here:
http://www.amazon.com/Living-Unseen-Reflections-Transformed-Life/dp/0985477369/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1371667754&sr=1-1&keywords=living+from+the+unseen+by+wendy+backlund
I recommend this to everyone! I love this Bible study. It has shown me so much within myself that has not only held me back from enjoying and receiving all of God's promises, but all the joy I have in everyday because of my relationship with Him!

Secondly, in my own quiet time, I use two different methods. One is called the SOAP method. Let's use my favorite scripture to demonstrate this method.

"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you with his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." Zephaniah 3:17

So the SOAP method is as follows:
S - Scripture
Zephaniah 3:17, "The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you with his love; he will exult over you with loud singing."
O-Observation
What I observe in this scripture is that God is always with me. He will always rejoice over me.
A-Application
Remind myself daily the God wants to rejoice over me, quiet me with his love, and sing loudly his praises over me!
P-Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for rejoicing with me and over. You are so good. Thank you for always being with me and filling me with your love. In your son Jesus' precious name, Amen!

I have seen this method on many different sites. I love this because each passage you are learning, you can always use this to fully understand God's word.

The second one I use is a very simple worksheet that can be found at http://yourway.net

Don't mind my face peeking through there :) LOL

So this sheet is almost the same as SOAP but goes into a little more detail There are three questions on it to make you dig a little deeper into yourself.
1. How does this passage speak to me?
2. How can I apply this passage to my life?
3. What questions do I have about this passage?

This sheet would be awesome for group studies as well, I feel it brings up conversation that may not otherwise happen.

Some people don't like to write directly in their Bibles. I write in mine, leave sticky notes in it, and use colored pencils to highlight passages since highlighters generally bleed through. Well, I hope this helps you guys and if you need anything at all, or just another perspective, contact me in the comments :)

Simple Summer Fun

I don't know about you, but during the summer, I love curling up in a chair outside with a good book. A lot of times though, my child doesn't find the same enjoyment in that. There's nothing better than..... SIDEWALK CHALK!

He will sit for hours drawing on our patio! He's so creative. Today he got to draw outside with daddy for a while. Don't take the simple activities for granted. Any time spent together, well, it's just awesome!

The Wake Up Call Activity

We had such an incredible message today at church! It has put a lot into perspective for me. So, tonight's activity that I want to share with you is for the ENTIRE family.

How many of the 10 Commandments do you know? Can you honestly say, without grabbing your Bible, that you know them all? Just in case, here they are :)
1. You shall have no other gods before me (not meaning one right after the other, but having only one god, no other god in God's presence).
2. You shall not worship idols.
3. You shall not use the Lords name in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
5. Honor your mother and your father.
6. You shall not commit murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not lie/give false testimony.
10. You shall not covet your neighbors house, wife, or possessions.

Ok so now that that is out of the way, look real close at #2. Idols..... What does that make you think of?

An idol is anything you put as the main focus of your life ahead of God. It doesn't have to be a statue that you bow to. It can be anything. During the sermon this morning, I got to thinking, am I worshipping an idol and putting God 2nd? That sent fear through my entire being. I sat down and really thought about it and you know what, I have to say, I don't put enough focus on God sometimes. I'm going to be honest with everyone. I am not perfect, no one is. But I now have a greater perspective into what I am doing to myself.

Here is my challenge to you;
1. What is the most important thing in your life? Honestly.
2. Do you care more about this item or concept than you do about God?
3. Put your life back into perspective and PUT GOD BACK ON THE THRONE OF YOUR LIFE!

I'm not trying to stir anything up, but we all need the wake up call now and then. I know I did. D this activity with your whole family. Let's get our lives back in balance! Please contact me if you need counsel, prayers, or just an ear to talk to.

A personal connection

I think we all get lost in the world of technology. Our children don't know what it was like to have to call someone when you needed to talk, that's been replaced by texting. Or to spend the afternoon outside building forts and playing in the mud, video games have sadly replaced that. I look around and see all the personal connections our society is losing.
I remember being so excited when I got something in the mail, not email, snail mail :). I remember that feeling of love, excitement, wonder, just waiting to open that package or envelop. So today, I think we should all take a minute and think about what personal connections we have and our children have.

What you'll need:
1. Pen or pencil
2. Paper
3. Envelope
4. STAMPS

Yes'm you read that right! We are going to write LETTERS!!!! I am so excited to do this! I miss having pen pals and waiting for the response or other goodies to come in the mail. Lets show our children the importance of technology free connections.
Make a list of friends and relatives that you and your child can write too. I bet the letters will be a well received surprise!

Alert!!!!!!

http://t.today.com/health/boys-death-highlights-hidden-danger-dry-drowning-1C9414070

This is something that every parent needs to be aware of. The signs of dry drowning can be easily dismissed especially on a hot day. Parents please be aware of this and keep a close eye on your children!!!!

Prayer Box

One of the most important things I am teaching my son about God is the power of prayer. I think too many people turn to Him only in their time of need and not in the joyous moments. God loves to hear the good in your life directly from you!

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says "pray without ceasing". Is this something you practice in your life and in your home?

Think about this for a moment. Our children first learn from us and then from the world. Do you want your child's foundation to be on faith, love, patience, and trust in the Lord, or do you want the world to show them the ways of the flesh? I know my son will have the foundation of amazing things in the Lord!

This is a good craft to use with lessons on faith and trust. After making the boxes, students can write their prayers, thanks, and worries on paper and put them in the box. This will help them understand that we should let go of our worldly concerns and let God take care of what we have trusted to Him.

Craft Supplies:
  • Oatmeal Box 18 oz. paper cut to 6 3/4" x 12 1/2"
  • paper cut to 3 1/4" diameter circle for top
  • markers, stickers or stamps
Craft Instructions:
Let the children color their piece of paper with the verse or design. Glue or tape the picture around the box. You can cut a slit in the top of the box if you like.

Suggested verse: 1 Peter 5:6-8

Fruit of the Spirit activity

I feel it is very important for us to teach our children about the Fruit of the Spirit.  The world can be a very awful and scary place. I think this activity is something that will show our children how to live and act and treat others.

First things first! Part of this activity is making an amazing fruit salad!!!!! I'm pretty sure we all now how to do that so I won't spend much time there. While you and the little ones are making this, ask your children what they think each quality means. What is love? What is kindness? How can you be patient with others? Etc. etc.

Next, let's get our materials together. You will need:
-white, green, red, purple, yellow, brown, orange, and what ever other colors you can think of :)
-cut out a tree from the brown paper
-cut out some different fruit from each of the other colors and write the name of one Fruit of the Spirit on each one.
-make it challenging for the older children and have them write scripture on each fruit as well that coincides with that Fruit.

Have fun with this! I can't wait to see all the awesome work you guys have done!

Rock Candy!!!!!

I am a sucker for candy! Any candy :)

I don't know about you, but my sweet tooth tends to get the best of me! What better way to satisfy it than home made ROCK CANDY! I am sure the little ones in our families will absolutely love this treat!
WARNING WILL INDUCE HYPERACTIVITY AND ALL ABOUT CRAZY FUN! PROCEED WITH CAUTION ;)

You'll need:

- a piece of string
- tablespoon of granulated sugar
- a glass bead or other small object
- small jar
- 1/2 cup of very hot water
- a pencil

What to do:
1. Fill the jar with hot water and stir in a spoonful of sugar at a time until the sugar no longer dissolves.
  2. Thread the string through the bead and tie a knot at its end. The bead will act as a weight.

3. Wrap the other end of the string around a pencil. Rest the pencil on the mouth of the jar and allow the bead to dangle in the sugar water. The bead should not touch the bottom of the jar.

 4. Place the jar in a warm place and let the sugar water stand undisturbed for a week or more. After a few days, you might have to carefully break and remove the crust of sugar crystals at the top so that the water can continue evaporating.

What happens:

Cube-shaped sugar crystals form on the string -- you've made rock candy!

Why this happens:

Water molecules move slowly up into the air as water vapor during the process of evaporation. As more and more water evaporates, sugar atoms draw close together, forming cube-shaped sugar crystals. And that's just what you'll see left behind on the string after the water is all gone!

Summer Journals/Smashbook!

How awesome would it be to make a smash book or journal for the entire summer break?!?!? I am so excited to do this! My son's last day at school is tomorrow (EEEEKKK!)!

What better way to enjoy each and every day of this summer break than making a SmashBook or Journal? Each day write down what you did with the date, of course, and doodle or take pictures to put in it and favorite things you did that day! I plan on adding some scripture to each page as well. There's scripture for anything and everything, never forget that!

As soon as we have ours together, I will post a picture of it. Remember: be fun, be creative, explore God's amazing creation! Add score cards from mini golf, ticket stubs from movies, tickets from arcades; possibilities are endless!

This amazing keepsake is something I plan on doing year round! I want to remember everything we did together. My little man won't be little for much longer :( so I need to capture these memories!

Straw Painting with the Wee Ones :)

  • Who's doesn't love some awesome art?!?! I love doing this with my son! We sometimes add google eyes to make little blob men just for giggles :). Please share your art with me or comment below with all the fun you had!
  • Drip a little watercolor paint, any color, on the paper. Use a teaspoon if it's easier. A bright primary color such as red, yellow or blue works well.
  • Drip your second color on another spot on the paper. Then dab your third on yet another spot.
  • Take the straw and show your child how to blow a color so the paint spreads out, usually forming one or more thin lines across the paper. Do the same with the other colors.
  • Notice where the colors meet and point out how the colors mix to make new colors at certain points (blue + yellow = green, etc.) The child may wish to keep blowing at the colors to see how the design changes.
  • 5 Let the paper dry when the child is done. Before drying, if you wish, lay a tissue gently over any part of the painting, then lift it up. Notice the beautiful way the tissue (coffee filters work too) absorbs the colors.
